When a military member is convicted at court-martial, that
is not the end of their legal rights. Depending upon the
level of court-martial and the punishment imposed, the
member has a number of appellate rights.
A member's conviction may be reviewed by The Judge
Advocate General, the service appellate court (The U.S.
Army Court of Criminal Appeals, The U.S. Navy-Marine
Corps Court of Criminal Appeals, or The U.S. Air Force
Court of Criminal Appeals), the U.S. Court of Appeals of
the Armed Forces (CAAF), and, occasionally, the U.S.
Supreme Court.
These appeals review the decisions made in the trial
court with a focus on whether any legal error was
committed. These courts have the authority to grant real
relief to military members.
We are available to represent and advocate for military
members before these appellate courts to identify legal
errors and obtain relief.
