Ms. McCarthy is an experienced litigator who has
aggressively represented military members facing
disciplinary actions ranging from administrative actions
such as Article 15, (also known as Captain’s Mast)
through Federal Courts-Martial which have garnered
international attention. Ms. McCarthy has handled high
profile cases, to include being lead counsel for a soldier
accused of detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib.
Through her extensive experience, Ms. McCarthy has
learned that the police, command and sometimes the
public rush to judgment based solely on what the
accusations are without looking at the situation as a
whole. Making a rush to judgment often leads to sloppy
and careless mistakes which can infringe the rights of the
service member and compromise the integrity of the
investigation.
Ms. McCarthy strongly believes in zealous advocacy for
those who wear the uniform. “I take pride in standing up
for those who serve our country. Simply by being
accused of a crime, a military member has a great deal at
stake. Not only is his or her liberty hanging in the
balance, but many times the individual’s family can be
devastated as well.” Notes Ms. McCarthy. “We do not
look at the client as just a number, we look at them as a
whole, as a soldier, mother, father, brother, wife,
husband, etc. Our strengths include attention to detail
and the ability to remind the command and panel
members that the client is a human being with a record of
service and not “just a criminal.”
