Do I Need a Civilian Attorney?
WHAT CAN A CIVILIAN ATTORNEY DO FOR ME?

  • Being accused of a crime is terrifying, and the
military justice system can be confusing to those
who are unfamiliar with it.  Frequently, military
members feel isolated from their command and
fellow service members.  While an investigation is
being conducted against the service member, a
“flag” is initiated which prevents the service
member from receiving any positive action, i.e.
promotion, transfer, etc.  Additionally, many times,
units will place service members who are under
investigation on a hold status and put them on
administrative duty, which can further isolate them
and create the perception to those around them
that they are already found guilty.

  • Mr. George and Ms. McCarthy are well versed in
the military justice system, and understand how
confused and isolated a client can feel when facing
either an investigation, a court martial, or even an
Article 15.  It is important to know that someone is
on your side and not making judgments. What is
needed most is someone who is advocating for
    you, not against you.

  • Once retained, Mr. George and Ms. McCarthy
    immediately begin communicating with the
command and authorities, which is key.  Making
sure the command knows that the client is
represented precludes them from questioning our
client and obtaining any evidence which may be
    used at a later time.

  • We take the time to walk you through the process,
and educate you about what exactly is happening,
what the evidence is, and how it may play out in
your case so that you can make a fully informed
    decision.

  • Regardless of whether or not there has been a
decision by the command on how to handle your
case we begin working on your defense
immediately.  We strive to ensure that your rights
are protected, and that you are treated
accordingly.  Additionally, we perform our own
investigation.  All too frequently, a decision is made
about the individual’s guilt or innocence based on
the initial accusation.  Many times, these
accusations are wrong, because they are based
on false, misleading or incomplete information.
Many times, evidence is either overlooked or
ignored by the authorities.  Through our
investigation, we run down these loose ends so
you have a complete picture of your case.

"Counsel ought to be the very last thing that an
accused person should want in a free country...the
bar ought...to be independent and impartial, at all
times and in every circumstance, and...persons
whose lives are at stake ought to have the counsel
they prefer."

~ John Adams
